WHEELS

There are 2 important area to consider when buying wheels for you skates. Firstly you must know the size and secondly the hardness of the wheels . SELECTING THE CORRECT HARDNESS WILL SAVE YOU MONEY AND MAXIMISE THE GRIP AND COMFORT OF YOUR SKATES.

The hardness of the wheels is represented by a number and the letter A.

The table below shows the recommended hardness of wheel for indoor and outdoor use.

Softer compound wheels- Best used indoors
Intermediate Wheels
Harder compound wheels- Best used outdoors
72A 74A 76A
78A
80A 82A 84A
A very soft wheel which is more suited to light weight skaters such as children. The ESA recommends 74A wheels for indoor use. This provides excellent grip and if looked after should last you for 8-12 months. Please note that indoor wheels can chip if abused. Therefore hockey stops or any violent methods of stopping should be kept to a minimum if you wish too prolong the life of the wheels. Provides better grip than the 78A however may let you down by not having sufficient grip when turning at high speeds. Relatively soft providing satisfactory grip indoor and excellent grip outdoors. The soft rubber allows for a more comfortable ride outdoors however the wheels will wear out relatively quickly especially if used for slalom. This wheel will last you longer than a 78A wheel however it would be more cost effective to purchase a harder wheel. For those regular skaters we recommend the harder compound. The wheels will last longer and will be faster over harder ground. However comfort is sacrificed as bumps and vibrations will travel through the chassis and boot.

As a general rule the more expensive the wheel, the better quality polyurethane rubber and a longer lasting wheel.
